Duerr’s donates over 200,000 breakfast portions to FareShare

Manchester-based marmalade manufacturer Duerr’s has donated over 200,000 breakfast portions to national charity FareShare.

The donation is the first of four donations in the brand’s year-long mission to help stop the spread of hunger with its You Buy, We Donate campaign. For every jar of Thick Cut, Fine Cut or Manchester Marmalade that is sold in stores nationwide, Duerr’s has donated a single serve breakfast portion to the charity. Duerr’s is set to continue this initiative into 2021 having set an ambitious target to donate 1 million breakfast portions over a 12-month period.

With 8.4 million people in the UK struggling to afford a meal*, FareShare will deliver Duerr’s contributions to their Regional Centres nationwide, to ensure they reach people in local communities who are most in need.

Richard Duerr, marketing and sales director at Duerr’s, said:

‘‘We’re pleased that the initiative is off to a strong start and the first product donations are now with the people who need them most. We’re looking forward to continuing our support in 2021 as we aim to meet our target of 1 million breakfast portions. Throughout the past couple of months, our business has also been working with the charity to donate additional products – we want to ensure that we, as a family business, are doing everything we can to help other families across the country have a good start to the day.’’

Alyson Walsh, Commercial Director at FareShare UK, said:

‘‘We’re hugely grateful for the initial donations from the Duerr’s team and we’re working hard to distribute the breakfast portions across the country, to ensure as many people as possible have a good breakfast each day. We look forward to working with the team more in 2021.”

Duerr’s partnership with FareShare is an extension of its ongoing charitable activity. The business has raised thousands of pounds for various causes over recent years, and most recently has supported local schools by providing spreads, jams and marmalades to breakfast clubs, ensuring as many children as possible have access to a good breakfast each day.

Duerr’s has been producing high-quality and innovative jams, marmalades, sweet spreads and condiments and peanut butter from Manchester for over 135 years.

FareShare is the UK’s largest food redistribution charity, with more than 30 warehouses across the UK. They take good quality surplus food from across the food industry and get it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups.
