THE JAMS BOND BALL HAS A LICENCE TO THRILL

The North West social scene is buzzing again with the news that tickets are now on sale for the annual charity ball sponsored by F Duerr and Sons Ltd, to be held at Mere Golf & Country Club on Saturday 8 November 2003.

This is the fifth ball organised and sponsored by the UK’s oldest remaining family owned preserves manufacturer. The annual ball is always themed around a Duerr’s product and this year it’s the Jam’s Bond Ball.

All proceeds from the night will go to Duerr’s nominated charity for 2003, Manchester Kids. Manchester Kids is the registered charity of Key 103 and Magic 1152, which aims to help make a difference to children all over Great Manchester.

The charity focuses primarily on recreation facilities in areas of urban deprivation and on children who are living in poverty or suffering abuse or distress.

Comperes for the evening will be Key 103 DJs, Mike Toolan and Darren Proctor, other celebrity guests are due to be confirmed nearer the time.

The event starts at 7.00pm with drinks on arrival, including the proverbial shaken not stirred dry martinis, which will be followed by a four course dinner then an evening ‘jam’ packed with entertainment from a live band, dancers, a DJ, casino tables and slot machines.

There will also be a raffle and an auction on the night to raise as much money as possible for Manchester Kids, entry into the raffle is included in the cost of the ticket. A Gold ticket is £75 per head and the Gold Corporate Package is £1,000 for a table of 10.

Marketing manager at Duerr’s, Tina Mullen said: “The Duerr’s charity ball has become a bit of a tradition in Manchester and it just gets better every year.

“We hope this year will be fantastic. The theme provides an endless list of fancy dress options from the very tame black tie and “M” to the outlandish Pussy Galore and the classic Brigitte Bardot bikini! It will be an action packed evening and we are certain that everyone will have a fun-filled night – what better way is there to raise money for such a worthwhile local cause?.”

FIRST TO THE MARKET FOR FAIRTRADING DUERR’S

F Duerr and Sons Ltd, the UK’s oldest remaining family owned preserves manufacturer, has made groundbreaking news as it announces it is to be the first UK preserves manufacturer to support Fairtrade.

Duerr’s will produce Strawberry Conserve and Fine Cut Orange Marmalade made with Fairtrade sugar from Malawi.

Bearing the Fairtrade Mark, the 340g jars will be available in supermarkets throughout the UK from the beginning of October 2003, retailing at £1.19 a jar.

Duerr’s marketing director Richard Duerr, said; “Fairtrade is about better prices, local sustainability, decent working conditions and fair trading for farmers and workers in the developing world. I want to ensure Duerr’s gives something back to farmers who grow the sugar we use to produce our extensive range of preserves.”

Currently there are over 60 companies in the UK offering 130 Fairtrade products including coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, snacks and biscuits, sugar, honey, fruit juice and fresh fruit, stocked by independent shops and all major supermarkets.

In the last two years sales of Fairtrade products have grown in the UK by 90% and in 2002 UK shoppers spent over £63m on Fairtrade products.
