Great British Joke

Reserved

Although British people are seen to be quite reserved, we are generally a friendly bunch.

Often said to be a reserved country when it comes to dress sense, speech and manners, British people are known for our self-discipline around the world. However, whether it be a chat about the weather at the bus stop or a compliment from a stranger at a bar, we always enjoy a chat. Although we love to express our personal opinions and thoughts, we don’t like to offend and criticise too much.

For us being reserved isn’t a bad thing, it just adds to our laid back nature and cool, calm and relaxed manner.

On this day: ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’ was created

When it comes to naming Christmas songs, ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’ would often be one of the first songs to be mentioned. On the 25th November 1984, Bob Geldof gathered a number of well-known singers including Sting, Boy George and Bono (to name a few) in a London recording studio to record the famous track.

The motive behind the release of the song was to help raise money for famine-stricken Ethiopia. A total of 3.5 million copies of the single were sold raising millions of pounds in the first week alone – becoming the highest selling single in UK chart history.

Bob Geldof under-estimated the sheer success that the single would have, aiming for and predicting only 70,000 copies to be sold. The single has since been covered on several occasions including additional singers such as Kylie Minogue and Chris Martin. No doubt we shall hear this catchy tune on our radios very soon!

Brunch

Woke up too late for breakfast, but its too early for lunch?

A brunch is a combination of the two! Usually served around 10am-2pm, it combines the best elements of both meals such as sausages and pancakes with jam(!) from breakfast with cold meats and bread from lunch.

For a posh brunch add a glass of champagne into the mix or for a lazy brunch have it in bed on a Sunday morning. Whatever the day or occasion, ‘brunching’ is still a very popular tradition in Britain. Giving us a excuse to sit down and truly enjoy a nice meal.
