MARMALADE AWARDS FOR MOST ORANGE CELEBRITY

GLAMOUR girl Jordan has been voted Britain’s most favourite “orange” celebrity according to a new survey.

The busty blonde tanned features beat those of television presenter Dale Winton to top spot.

Former England captain David Beckham, whose bronzed body was on display as he wore white speedos during his recent holiday in Italy, came third in the poll of more than 2,000 people.

The sporting theme was maintained with Welsh rugby pin up Gavin Henson named in the top five and new England assistant coach Terry Venables’ perma-tan earning him a place in the top 10.

Marmalade makers Duerr’s commissioned the fun survey as part of its 125th birthday celebrations.

Richard Duerr, Head of Sales and Marketing at the Manchester company said: “Some celebrities manage to maintain a suspect perma tan throughout the year – with many going too far with the fake tan. In fact it’s fair to say some of these stars resemble the colour of our marmalade!”

Hugh’s indiscretion is named as most memorable sticky celeb moment

Celebrities love to grab the limelight but there are certain situations that they would like to see swept under the carpet of shame! However, Hugh Grant’s sticky situation with hooker Divine Brown will never die according to a new survey published today.

Jam and marmalade makers Duerr’s, questioned over 3000 people across the UK to mark their 125th birthday.

Hollywood hottie Paris Hilton was a close second with 20% of the votes for with her infamous home video while political plonker John Prescott came third due to his infamous right hook.

Judy Finnigan’s National Television Awards expose beat Wayne Rooney’s brothel creep to fourth place and it was a true case of rock and roll with Kate Moss’s recent drug taking fending off George Michael’s public toilet arrest to take sixth place.

David Beckham put the boot in with 7% of the votes for his romance with PA Rebecca Loos beating Angus Deaton’s tabloid scandal of sex and drugs, which saw him, get sacked from the BBC. Last but certainly not least was Wacko Jacko with his unusual antic of dangling his baby out of his hotel window.

L’EAU DE MARMALADE – SPLASH IT ALL OVER

MANCHESTER jam makers Duerr’s has created a marmalade perfume combining Spanish oranges with water from the River Irwell.

The fruity fragrance has been crafted by experts as part of the company’s 125th birthday celebrations.

And bosses at Duerrs hope the new L’eau de Marmalade will be a hit with men and women.

The perfume has used Seville oranges to re-create the fruity essence of Spain’s finest export while not forgetting its Manchester roots with a drop of the River Irwell.

The unisex cologne combines the spicy essence of cinnamon and a hint of citrus to induce the feel good factor reminiscent of eating marmalade.

The company has produced a sample batch and if the trials are successful it could be in the shops by October.

Dr David Holmes from Manchester University comments: “Marmalade is a quintessential British food which has been eaten by us since the 15th Century. It was originally a preserve only enjoyed by royalty and the very rich, but more recently it has become a well known spread at the breakfast table, becoming a comfort food spread thickly on buttered toast.

“The citrus smell of oranges and the bitter taste of marmalade is distinctive and like many food flavours such as vanilla and cinnamon which are used in perfumes the pleasure of tasting and smelling oranges is closely linked which explains why many Duerr’s customers requested the cologne.”

Richard Duerr, Director of Marketing for Duerr’s, comments; ‘We have been creating marmalade for 125 years and have always used the finest oranges from Seville.

“There has always been an association between taste and smell and L’eau de Marmalade incorporates these two senses and the fragrance really captures the smell of Seville.”

DESIGN IT FOR DUERR’S

Children in the North West have been invited to be a part of history! Duerr’s have enlisted the help of youngsters in the region by launching a competition which challenges them to design a 125th anniversary label for special edition marmalade.
The winning entry will see their design on jars of Duerr’s marmalade on supermarket shelves across the country! The winning designer and five of their friends will also win a guided tour of the Duerr’s factory to see how the famous marmalade is made.
Richard Duerr comments: “To celebrate this very special birthday we wanted to do something a bit different which would engage the people of the North West, where our family business started and has continued to grow in the last 125 years.
This competition, we hope, will inspire youngsters to get artistic with the chance of seeing their designs on supermarket shelves across the UK. We are very much looking forward to seeing the entries coming in.”

DUERR’S JOIN THE PARADE

F Duerr & Sons Ltd, the UK’s oldest remaining family owned preserves manufacturer, has joined the CowParade with the sponsorship of “Mooer’s Moomalade”, the marmalade cow.

Duerr’s commissioned local designer Ben Cook to create a unique design for their cow. Working closely with Duerr’s, Ben came up with the final design for Moomalade; “I wanted to marry the two diverse concepts of cows and marmalade in an entertaining fashion.” Mooer’s Moomalade will be one of a herd of over a hundred CowParade bovines which will graze the streets and squares of Manchester when the world’s most successful public art exhibition “moo”ves into town from 14 June to 12 September.

CowParade provides Mancunians with a once in a lifetime viewing experience and will showcase the city’s creativity on a global stage and be the largest public art event ever hosted by Manchester.

Business Investment in CowParade has a long term legacy as the cream of the herd will be auctioned at a gala event and the rest at an on-line auction. Substantial proceeds will benefit Manchester Kids, which supports locally based children’s and young people’s charities and was Duerr’s chosen charity for 2003.

Mark Duerr, managing director of Duerr’s said; “CowParade will be an exciting and fun event. We are delighted to be actively involved whilst knowing that the charity which is dear to our hearts will benefit.”

Manchester Kids is the registered charity (No 1087854) of Key 103 and Magic 1152, which aims to help make a difference to children all over Greater Manchester. The charity focuses primarily on recreation facilities in areas of urban deprivation and on children who are living in poverty or suffering abuse or distress.

DUERR’S CELEBRATE TWO LONG SERVICE AWARDS

F Duerr and Sons Ltd, the UK’s oldest remaining family owned preserves manufacturer, has presented two employees with long service awards. This now takes the total number of staff serving Duerr’s over 25 years to 11.

Evelyn Lamacraft and Mike Cullinane have worked for the company for over 25 years at its Prestage Street, Old Trafford site. Both were presented with a Tissot watch by Mark Duerr, Managing Director and Richard Duerr, Marketing Director at a celebratory lunch in Manchester.

Mike Cullinane from Chorlton is label stores person and is responsible for booking label deliveries on to the Sage system and maintaining the label stores area. As a multi-skilled operator, Mike also acts as relief machine operator.

Evelyn Lamacraft is technical manager whose responsibilities include overseeing all technical aspects of running Duerr’s two factories at Old Trafford and Wythenshawe, liaising with technical staff at all Duerr’s major retail customers, auditing all ingredient suppliers and ensuring Duerr’s products meet legal standards whilst keeping abreast of any legal changes in the UK and EU. Evelyn who lives in Partington also develops and writes product recipes.
