Duerr’s raise £30,000 for ‘More Tomorrows’ cancer research fund

Duerr’s, Britain’s oldest family run jam and marmalade makers, have donated £30,000 to ‘More Tomorrows’, a unique fundraising partnership between Cancer Research UK, The Christie and The University of Manchester.

Raise £30,000 for Cancer ResearchThe money was raised at Duerr’s annual charity ball, held at The Monastery, Manchester in November and will help to fund the construction of the new Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC).

Juliet Mitchell, cousin to Mark and Richard Duerr, who has previously been treated at The Christie, presented the cheque.

The MCRC, which is being built in Withington, is funded by Cancer Research UK, the University of Manchester and The Christie. The largest centre of its kind in Europe, the MCRC is set to revolutionise cancer treatment in the North West and will bring hope to thousands, including the 13,200 people diagnosed with cancer each year in the Greater Manchester area alone.

The ‘More Tomorrows’ fundraising campaign will raise the remaining £6m needed to complete the MCRC, which comes with a price tag of £28.5m.

Mark Duerr, Managing Director of Duerr’s says: “Our annual ball was a brilliant success and we’re now delighted to hand over £30,000 on behalf of our guests who dug deep for such a deserving cause. The MCRC’s aim is to revolutionise the treatment of cancer – a disease which affects 36 people in Manchester  every single day.”

Professor Richard Marais, Director of the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute adds: “The new MCRC building will allow us to continue to be a world-leader in cancer research. Duerr’s support of the More Tomorrows campaign will ultimately help to develop new, personalised treatments that will save the lives of patients in Manchester and around the world – creating more tomorrows for more people. Thank you to all who made the Jamski Ball such a wonderful success”.

Since 2000, Duerr’s are proud to have raised more than £555,000 for charity. In 2012, Duerr’s ‘Marma Mia’ 70s themed ball raised funds for Place2Be. The charity – whose patron is Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge  – provides school based emotional and mental health support to children, parents and teachers.

Back by popular demand: Duerr’s Aphrodisiac Jam

Aphrodisiac Jam

SOLD OUT!

The world’s only Aphrodisiac Jam, made with a heady blend of juicy strawberries, finest French champagne and a sprinkling of ground horny goatweed (a ‘natural Viagra’) is back on sale in time for Valentine’s Day 2014.

Ground horny goatweed is thought to be a natural male sexual stimulant. According to legend, this property was discovered by a Chinese goatherder who noticed sexual activity in his flock after they ate the weed. Considered a natural Viagra, it has been used by practitioners for over 2,000 years to boost erectile function and increase libido. Known also as Epimedium or Yin Yang Huo, horny goat weed was first described in ancient classical Chinese medicinal texts and is today sold as a health supplement, usually in raw herb, tablet, or capsule form and sometimes blended with other supplements.

Serving suggestions for the sweet and sticky spread include breakfast in bed and 45-minute ‘lie-in’, or include it in baked treats like jam tarts to add extra fizz to an afternoon treat.

Richard Duerr, Sales and Marketing Director of Duerr’s comments:

“Here at Duerr’s we’re proud to have been supplying the nation with breakfast fare since 1881. This Valentine’s Day, we’ll be providing the special ingredient for a breakfast in bed with a difference.

It’s great to see that our Aphrodisiac Jam perked up the nation 2013- and our re-release run means that we’re set to spread the love all over again.”

Duerr’s have a dedicated history to providing exciting limited edition jams and marmalades. Easter 2013 saw the launch of an Orange Marmalade with Dark Chocolate – the connoisseur’s alternative to an Easter egg and to mark their 125th anniversary in 2006, Duerr’s developed the world’s most expensive marmalade, costing £5,000 for a 1kg jar. The crystal jar contained marmalade made with 62-year-old Dalmore whisky and vintage Pol Roger champagne.

Duerr’s Aphrodisiac Jam is priced at £4.99 + £2.50 postage. It is available to UK residents only.

The limited edition jars of Aphrodisiac Jam are handmade in small batches. They will be dispatched as soon as they are ready; we guarantee that they will reach you in time for Valentine’s Day 2014.

Duerr’s raise £30k for More Tomorrow’s

Duerr’s raised £30k for ‘More Tomorrow’s’ at the ‘Jamski Ball’ held on 23 November.

Anna Karenina partied the night away alongside Dostoevsky and Yuri Gagarin at the Russian themed charity ball which took place at The Monastery in Manchester.

‘More Tomorrow’s’ is a campaign to raise much needed money to fund the construction of the new ‘Manchester Cancer Research Centre’, opposite The Christie Hospital.
