Making Mincemeat of Seasonal Food

Duerr’s has combined both traditional and unusual combinations to create delicious Christmas fayre

F Duerr and sons has created a selection of the most decadent mincemeat flavour combinations for Christmas; the occasion for ultimate indulgence.

Food lovers everywhere will revel in the Christmas offerings that combine the very best of the traditional festive flavours; Cranberry and Port, Brandy and Ginger. Duerr’s will also satisfy the most adventurous foodie with their Dark Chocolate mincemeat that will have St. Nicolas clambering down the chimney in no time.

Each jar in the mincemeat range also carries the Duerr’s Easy Open Orbit lid to take the hard work out of opening the jar. The lid, introduced to the grocery market by Duerr’s has signalled the end of stubborn glass jar lids.

To open the jar, the user simply twists the ring in the same way as opening a normal twist-off lid. Twisting the ring firstly loosens the ring, then smoothly pushes the panel away from the jar to break the seal.

Duerr’s have been making preserves for all the family for 130 years. The recipes, originally created by Mary Duerr have been handed down and updated through five generations and are now made by her great, great, great grandsons Mark and Richard Duerr.

Richard Duerr, Sales and Marketing Director, comments, ‘There has been something of a gourmet revolution in the UK over the past few years, but at Christmas time baking and cooking every item from scratch is far too much work. We’ve put the hard work into creating these Christmas delights so put your feet up and enjoy them.’

The range of Duerr’s Luxury 1881 Mincemeat is available at Tesco RRP £1.39. For more information visit: https://duerrs.co.uk

Duerr’s holds Marma Mia ball in aid of national children’s charity, Place2Be

Evel Knievel was joined by Elvis, Saturday Night Fever and the stars of ABBA at Duerr’s charity ball held on 17th November 2012 . The theme for the annual event held by the jam makers was Marma Mia and partygoers got into the spirit by donning their favourite 70s costumes to raise money for a cause close to the company’s heart.

Guests were welcomed with a champagne – and Tequila Sunrise – reception, a retro-themed three course meal complete with 70s favourite, mint matchsticks and an auction packed filled with once-in-a-lifetime experiences including VIP tickets to X Factor final.

The ball, held at The Point, raised £25,000 for Place2Be. The money will go towards the cost of providing essential in-school counselling services to vulnerable children nationwide.

Duerr’s has now raised more than £525,000 for charities since 2000.

Duerr’s donates vital funds to Sale and Altrincham MENCAP Society

Britain’s oldest jam and marmalade maker is helping Sale and Altrincham Mencap to care for even more members with their donation of a hi-riser changing table.

The electrically operated wall-mounted changing table cost over £3,000 and will ensure that everyone can be involved in activities no matter what their disabilities are.

The table was presented by Mark Duerr and his cousin Juliet, and received by Shirley Godden, President of Sale and Altrincham Mencap, mother of two twin boys with learning and physical disabilities and mother to Juliet, and aunt to Mark.

Duerr’s MD, Mark Duerr comments, “Duerr’s is a family run company and has been for 131 years, being able to help a local charity that does such great work is a real honour.

A spokesman for Sale and Altrincham Mencap continues, “Duerr’s fantastic support and generosity enables us to continue and expand the services we provide for our members. The table allows our members with more complex needs to attend our clubs and activities.”

The Sale and Altrincham Mencap relies solely on donations and fundraising events to continue its work.

This donation is a continuation of Duerr’s long tradition of giving to charity. The 131-year old family run business raised the funds at its annual charity ball at The Point, at Lancashire County Cricket Ground. The theme, “Preserved on Film” saw guests and Duerr’s staff dress as stars from the silver screen including the Tin Man, Bridget Jones, Mr Incredible and Batman.

Managing Director Mark Duerr and his brother, Sales and Marketing Director, Richard Duerr even offered themselves as prizes in the auction to ensure the event smashed the previous year’s £20,000 total.

Duerr’s has raised in excess of £500,000 for charity since 2000 through fundraising events and a share of the night’s total was also donated to Wythenshawe Hospital’s Neonatal Unit providing essential equipment.
